Trout are Bitting, Flounder is Open, Striped Bass Opens April 15th

Posted by Montauk Matt on

As we enter April, the feeling of spring fishing overwhelms us. The lakes have been stocked, flounder season opens and Striped Bass season is only 2 weeks away. Many things are going on that are keeping anglers busy. One of them would be thr 2 year old browns and rainbow trout that have been put into the local lakes. After a long trip from the hatchery these fish are hungry and will feed aggressively right off the trucks.
Hot lures have been Kastmasters, Mepps Spinners, Blue Fox Spinners and Thomas lures. Those throwing bait will find great success with wax worms, nightcrawlers, and meal worms. Even a small live shiner will tempt a big brown trout.

April 1st marked  first day of flounder season. while we have no reports of flounder yet, we are fully stocked with baits and rigs so that you can try your luck at catching some. These baits include bloodworms, sandworms, mussels, and clam chum. If you want to share your flounder catch with us send your pictures to . Also remember regulations for flounder this year is a 2 fish limit per person with each fish having to be at least 12"
