I have a great gift idea for Mom….How about a new Van Staal VR200 Reel!!!! Mother's Day is Sunday May 8th
Local pond fishermen are still finding luck targeting trout. The stocked browns and rainbows are providing anglers with a good opportunity to get the "rod bent." Shop regular Tony "The Nose" managed himself a few chunky browns on local flies.
We are still carrying key trout baits such as nightcrawlers, wax worms and meal worms. Lures still will work but as it gets warmer out, the fish will be more willing to hit the bait .
Largemouth bass fishing closes on a good note. Bass were taken using Most soft plastics. Live shiners were also landing many fish as well. Remember... Largemouth bass cannot be targeted from may 1st to the first saturday in june!
Even early in this Striper season we are seeing outstanding fishing. The small fish continue to provide a lot of action but to make things even
more interesting, a body of keeper sized fish, up to 20 lbs, moved into our local area.
Reports have come in that fish in in the 20lb range have come in from
shinnecock to Fire Island. Even our local docks from Pine Neck to Blue Point are giving up keeper bass!
Bass have been holding up near bridges such as the robert moses and the smith point bridge ranging from 10' inches to 32 inches.
This time of the year the best bait to use would be bunker or mackerel chunks on a fish finder rig. Hot lures this week were the Dawia SP Minnow, Bomber, Redfin and Bass
Assassin and white bucktail.
The razer blues have shown up in the local area. Every once in a while someone will manage to land one. Big schools of teen size fish have been reported to our west. These fish can be here any day now. Once they show up everything will break wide open.
The shop is stocked with all rigs, baits and lures to go after one of these yellow eyed demons.
