The Bluefish invasion is finally here. They are all over the place. A local hotspot is the smith point bridge shoreline. Anglers are seeing impressive catches of bluefish up to 18lbs on topwater lures. The inlets are holding a healthy population of blues too.
Fish in the inlet are being taken on bucktails. Don't overlook chunking the local docks. Any dock from Patchogue to Sayville have seen a good bite.
Fluke is open and the bite is on. Keepers are common in the bay from one inlet to the other. Spearing and Squid strips are the bait of choice. Bucktails typed with squid will also do they job.
Looking for Porgies. Next stop Peconics. Porgies are now on the north shore but HIGH scup are found in the Peconics. Sandworms, Squid, Clam are all good baits. Light tackle rods and have a ball. (If these fish grew to 20lbs, you won't thing of Striped Bass as the premium fighting fish anymore.)
