Discover Long Islands Fishing Secrets......Freshwater Fishing is Spec_"trout"_ ular

Posted by Montauk Matt at

With West lake now stocked with 300 two year old brown trout as well as several other on the island many anglers are now enjoying some awesome trout fishing. Customers have been coming in talking about the great catches going on. Lures like Kastmasters, Phoebe lures and Thomas Lures are doing quite well with the fish. Baits such as nightcrawlers and live shiners fished under a float are providing hookups as well.

The Yellow Perch throughout the lake are making
their presence known too. Nightcrawlers or small sift plastics are very effective on these fish.

The fairly mild winter has even started Striped Bass off to an early start this year. Resident fish in the back bays are waking up and aggressively hitting soft plastics and small swimmers. Most of these fish are 12"-20" but a few larger are mixed in. Extremely fun on light tackle. Also, as a side note, Striped Bass are allowed to
be targeted during the off season but it is strictly CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. Once April 15th comes then you can keep one fish per day at 28"
