Still a great bite of fish down at Patchogue's Mascot Dock on an array of species. Snappers on spearing, kastmasters and snapper poppers. Kingfish and blowfish are taking clam, squid and sandworms along the bottom. Crabbing is holding steady. I passed a few buckets my last trip down and was quite happy to see them filled with big blue claws. When I asked around most people said they have been scooping them along the docks. Bunker used in the traps doing great too. When looking for a dock to try out you cant really go wrong with Patchogue's Mascot Dockat the end of south ocean ave, Corey Beach or Pine Neck Dock.

Fluke fishing is still good in the bays. Moriches and Shinnecock have been producing plenty of action with some keepers mixed in. Try around the inlets drifting squid and spearing on either a fluke rig or bucktails. The ocean has been decent too this last week. This past storm may effect that bite however will have to see what happens afterwards.

Some reports of Weakfish have trickled in this last week. The Great South Bay has been loaded with them from Blue Point to Sayville in 10-13ft of water. Try using squid strips or sandworms on a diamond jig or back of a jig head.

Small Striped Bass are actively feeding on "rainbait" (small baitfish) in the inlets. The mornings in Shinecock Inlet  and Moriches have seen some good blitzes. Cast Deadly Dicks, Joe Baggs resin jigs, or any small tins at them to entice the bass to hit. Mixed in with the bass in the inlets are small Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel and Bonita.

The Atlantic Spanish mackerel is a migratory species of mackerels that swims to the Northern Gulf of Mexico in spring, returns to south Florida in the Eastern Gulf, and to Mexico in the Western Gulf in the fall. Wikipedia- EXCELLENT EATING

Porgies have been all over the north shore and south shore inlets of the island. They are biting on clam and sandworms used on a #4, #2 or a #1 hi low rig. The inlets have some big porgies too. I watched one fisherman catch a few jumbos using sandworms right in close to the rocks during the week.

False Albacore have come in this week. they landed at Shinecock Inlet It is only a matter of time before these "little speedsters" are in full force around our island. For this type of fishing I recommend a lighter inshore rod from seven to eight feet in length capable of throwing 1/2oz to 1 1/2oz. When pairing a reel look for something capable of holding 300yds of 15lb or 20 lb braid. The use of a fluorocarbon leader can help you too. Something in the 20lb to 30lb range. "Albies" can be picky at times and disappearing fluorocarbon leader may give you an edge. The better abrasion properties of fluorocarbon  can help if rocks are in the picture. The new tactical angler micro clips will make switching lures out such as Deadly Dicks, Shimano Coltsniper jigs and Joe Baggs resin jigs a breeze.

Recipe-Anthony's White Wine Clam Sauce. Anthonys shucks the clams and then boils them, I use a steamer pot.
Put 3-4 dozen clams in the top of a steamer pot and 2 cups of water in the bottom. Steam the clams open, remove them from their shells and chop fine. Strain the clam juice and water from the bottom of the pot through a cheese cloth and set aside. Chop up a large onion and some celery stalks and sauté in olive oil and 2 tablespoons of wet garlic. After the onion is done add in the saved clam juice, a stick of butter and 2 cups of white wine. Cook at high heat for 2 minutes then reduce the heat and add the chopped clams. Season with Red Pepper and parmesan cheese if desired. Serve over pasta with Italian bread.
