Weekend in Review…Seabass Open's July 15th

  This week has been very interesting on the surf front. Solid early morning fishing has been reported on our south shore beaches. Sandeels were seen just over the outer bars and on some occasions made their way close to shore and gave anglers some go chances at some nice bass and big bluefish. The south shore bunker run countinues with many anglers catching fish over 40 lbs on live bunker. on the calmer days its very easy to pick out these schools because they will often be close to the surface. July 4th Forecast….Expect Great Fishing!!!

Sandeels! Yes its true, the sandeels are in fact on the south shore beaches and in the inlets. Early mornings and afternoons have both stripers and bluefish feeding on the sandeels. green bucktails, diamond jigs, and  other eel like imitations have caught most of the fish out front. the inlets have seen great day bites when the tide is moving. heavy bucktails tipped with pork rinds account for almost all of the fish on the rocks. At times its was even reported "blitz fishing" with a hit every cast! shinnecock inlet had an immense amount of bluefish with some bass mixed in these schools....

Fishing Continues to be Hot and Heavy

The southshore beaches have been on fire this week. Small baits have made their presence know on the beach with good showings of spearing and sandeels. Bluefish up to 15 pounds were beached in the past few days with some striped bass ranging from the small schoolie size all the way up to the high teens in weight. Mike from the shop had a quality keeper that weighed 16lbs yesterday on a south shore beach. Montauk Matts Surf Report

Blues continue to be picked at the smiths point bridge. Still these fish remain at large with some whoppers topping the scales at 15 pounds. Topwater it the way to go. Besides, you can't beat a hungry bluefish exploding on a topwater plug. The inlets have seen their pick at bass in the mid teens. Bucktails and swim shads are still doing the damage.
