Open Labor Day For "All Your Fishing Needs"…Snapper Blues and Crabs Continue To Bring Summer Fun

      Snappers- The local rivers, creeks and docks are loaded with these small blues. Everyday they aregrowing bigger making them more fun to catch on light tackle. Spearing on a float, snapper poppersand kastmasters (metal tins) all have been doing good. Dont overlook these fish when nothing else is going on. Crabbing-Crabbing continues to produce some fine catches.  Traps are doing a little better than nets, however, you can't beet a summers nights crabbing at a local dock with a flashlight and crab net.  Picking the blue claws from pilings are what summers are made for.  Best bet, bunker...

  Stripers- The expected slow striped bass fishing that comes with the heat of the summer has continued into this week.   Little has been heard reguarding them.  With a few reports of small fish coming in from those who are venturing out at night. One of those reports came from Andy from the shop who fished the smith point open beach for a number of shorts all caught on sp minnowsand bombers.Bluefish-  It seems that the ones that are being caught are all under 5 pounds. Summer Time Action Continues

Snappers are all over the local docks. If you can make your way down to one of them and throw small spearing on a float, a snapper or a small tin then you have a very good chance of hooking up with one of these fun fish. (Photo: Patchogue Snapper Derby Winners!!! Congratulations!!!) At daybreak you can pick Stripers from the south shore beaches. Most of these fish are schoolie sized with few keepers mixed in. It's Snapper Time

Compaired to last weeks uncomfortably hot weather, this week is more comfortable with temperatures in the 80's. With a slight decerease in temperature I have noticed an increase in fishing productivity. Although the size of bluefish recently has not been anything to talk about, the amount of them is very impressive.  If you find yourself fishing any of the inlets, you will have a good chance of hooking up with a blue.  Don't overlook them. Summer Doldrums? No!!

The Porgy bite has been productive the past couple of days. Porgies are being caught up to 2lbs-3lbs all over the north shore , shinnecock inlet . rocky point and cedar beach ,as well as moriches inlet. porgie baits thathave been attracting these fish are sandworms, squid, and clams work excellent. Fishing incoming water or near structure have been key focual points to land these massive porgies. As we enter the hottest part of the summer fishing continues to go on.
