Casting For Recovery

Posted by Matt Stone at

The mission of Casting for Recovery (CfR) is to enhance the quality of life of women with breast cancer through a unique program that combines breast cancer education and peer support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. The retreats offer opportunities for women to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life and experience healing connections with other women and nature. CfR’s retreats are open to breast cancer survivors of all ages, in all stages of treatment and recovery and are free to participants.
Casting for Recovery-Long Island began on a winter night in February 2000. By July of that year, we were prepared to host our first retreat. Now, so many years later, hundreds of participants have experienced our program. We continue to thrive with the support of a terrific cast of dedicated volunteer staff (fly-fishing experts, medical and psychosocial personnel, and river guides), past participants, and many generous local organizations and individuals.

The Hilton Garden Inn has been the place to gather for our retreats and it is conveniently located on Veterans Memorial Highway, which is accessible from both the Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway. We practice fly fishing at the beautiful Caleb Smith State Park and Preserve in Smithtown and we fish in the world-renowned waters of the Connetquot River located in the expansive gem of Long Island Connetqout State Park and Preserve located in Oakdale. Come join us and experience the tranquil wonders of Long Island that you may never have known existed.
