Summer Fishing Update • Crabs Are In!! • Getting Ready For Tuna • Take Care Of Your Catch
Posted by Pablo Salinas on
Tip of the week: Take care of you and your catch.
With the hot humid weather of summer upon us its important to take care of yourself as well as your catch. Be sure to bring plenty of water with you to stay hydrated, use sun screen, and to wear proper clothing: hat and sunglasses. If you intend on harvesting your catch bring a cooler with plenty of ice to keep your fish out of the sun and keep cold. Its also a good idea to bleed your fish, this will also help preserve your catch and make for a better eating experience. Crabs while hardy, should be kept in a bucket without water out of the sun and covered with a wet (saltwater) rag. While fishing or crabbing bait should also be kept out of the sun and either covered with a wet rag or in a cooler with ice.

June's Fishing Forecast • Crabbing Has Started • Fun Fish Around Long Island • Wrecks-Reefs And More
Posted by Pablo Salinas on
Bluefish continue to be the story this past week with "fair" catches of quality size choppers being caught all along the south shore inlets and bays. Whether fishing from shore, off the Local Docks or out in a boat, anglers targeting Bluefish have been successful.
Porgy fishing is a great way to introduce kids to fishing. Porgy fishing (also know as Scup) offers lots of action to keep them interested while learning basic angling skills.
Weakfish reports have been coming in from the Peconics and Great South Bay. Anglers fishing for porgies are getting an occasional tide-runner too. We have also heard of anglers fishing the Smith Point County Park and Ocean Beach area landing some quality fish. Try drifting a whole sandworm or pink rubber shad tipped with a squid strip or try using a basic double hook rig. with either Sandworms or Squid Strip as another productive method.

Memorial Weekend Fishing Update • It's Porgy Time!! • Weakfish Surprise • Bluefish Show • Wreck of the Week

Many anglers have reported a mixed bag of activity throughout the Island. Weakfish have been surprisingly lively. Many anglers are fishing from Ocean Beach, Peconic Bay, and Great South Bay and Shinnecock Canal have all produced weakfish. Striped Bass have been reported in the south shore inlets and back bays. The North Shore has produced some quality fish, with Porgies being caught at from Wildwood State Park and Peconic Bays.Moriches and Shinecock Inlet have produced some great Fluke fishing as well.
Bluefish have been all around the bays and inlets. People are still catching bluefish at Smith Point County Park and Cupsogue Beach County Park off the beach. Using a diamond jig has been doing very well. Super strike poppers have been very effective and are really fun to use .
