April Fishing Update-May Fishing Forecast
Posted by Pablo Salinas on
Porgy fishing begins on May 1st.... Anglers will head to our North Shore and Peconic Bays . The best bait to use for porgy would be sand-worms or clam on a small bait rig with a size one or two hook. The best places to target porgy would be peconic bays, Wildwood State Park and cedar beach both located on the north shore. The south shore has its share of porgies too. Best to concentrate, around the inlets or Artificial Reefs and local wrecks.

Angler’s Tip of the Week
Watch the Tides & Temps: In early April, a few degrees make a world of difference. Try to fish the "outgoing" tide in the late afternoon. The water that has been sitting in the shallow marshes warming up in the sun all day will pull back into the deeper channels, often triggering a feeding frenzy for any predatory fish waiting nearby.

Striped Bass Season Opens Wednesday April 15th...Trout Stockings Are Fully Underway
Posted by Pablo Salinas on
Striped Bass season opens April 15. Fish are already being caught (and released) out west and are slowly making there way east. Most of the fish caught have been schoolies, but there have been a few keepers in the mix. Guys have been successful using swimming plugs like a Mag Dartars, Sp Minnows and redfins but using clams will also work. Early season fish require some patience, but putting in your time can be very rewarding. Try fishing the mouths of creeks and rivers as well as some warmer water in shallower areas. A couple of days of warmer weather should really "turn the fish on," so get out there and give them a shot.
On the surf fishing scene: The "surf rats" have taken trips to Manhasset bay to score with Stripers to 33." Anglers have been using the usual small plugs,Sp Minnows and redfins. Try your favorite lures or possibly a small shad lure.
